Brett Hankison found guilty

The jury found the defendant Brett Hankison guilty on count 2, violation of Breonna Taylor's civil rights

Brett Hankison was found guilty on count 2, violating the rights of Breonna Taylor however the jury acquitted Hankison of, count 1, violating the civil rights of Taylor's neighbors, a conviction that carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. The jury was made up of the same makeup from his first trial, that being 15 jurors, 14 white and 1 black.

 

"I look at Breonna Taylor and see myself."


Protests began May 28th, 2020. Many stated that they would keep going until Breonna Taylor received some sense of justice. Many declared a sense of justice for Breonna Taylor after the 874th day and others stated that this wasn't enough. Some individuals who marched during this victory lap stated that the justice finally came on November 1st, 2024. Now, a little simple math, from May 28th, 2020 to November 1st, 2024 is 1,618 days.

 

Brett Hankison's sentencing date is set for March 12, 2025, this will be 1 day before the five-year anniversary of Taylor's death which was March 13th, 2020 early in the morning with a botched raid which started the night of March 12, 2020.


Community members, friends and family of  Breonna Taylor's mother Tamika Palmer gave their reaction to the verdict and shared some thoughts.

Activists, organizers and protesters marched once again calling it a Victory lap in honor of the guilty verdict for Brett Hankison, former louisville metro police officer. The march started where everything started on May 28th, 2020 at The Square, or Injustice Square Park, or 600 W Jefferson St. It was led down 6th St, right on Muhammad Ali, right turn on 18th St, left on Jefferson St until its destination the Palm Room at 1821 W. Jefferson St.
